(Central News Agency, Washington, 16th Comprehensive Foreign Telegraph Report) The U.S. government confirmed today that government agencies’ networks have been recently hacked and damaged and that the cyber attack is “serious and ongoing.”

Reuters earlier this week quoted people familiar with the matter as reporting that these hackers are believed to be working for the Russian government. They have been monitoring the internal email communications of the US Treasury and Commerce Departments, and the cyber attacks discovered so far may be only the tip of the iceberg, which is worrying.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) issued a joint statement stating: "This is an ongoing situation. We continue to work hard to understand the full picture of the cyber attack. We know that the sabotage has affected the federal government's intranet."

SolarWinds, an information technology company used by hackers as an intrusion tool, said that as many as 18,000 customers have downloaded hacked software updates, allowing hackers to secretly monitor commercial and government agencies for nearly 9 months without being discovered.

The joint statement also said: "In the past few days, the FBI, CISA, and ODNI have discovered a serious and ongoing cyber attack."

The statement stated: "The FBI is collecting intelligence and investigating to identify, track and stop these hackers."

The statement said that the FBI, CISA, and ODNI have established a unified network coordination group to coordinate the US government's response measures.

US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien is visiting Europe. He canceled his unfinished trip yesterday and returned to Washington to deal with the matter. (Internship Compilation: Luo Chuyu/Verification Draft: Yan Siqi) 1091217
